How long would you wait to realize a dream? Lifetime achievement awards are often for those who deserved it through amazing amounts of hard work, perseverence and commitment. How long would you wait for love? Some people find it immediately. Some search all of their lives. How long would you wait for recognition? Recognition is often for those who deserved it through amazing amounts of hard work, perseverence and commitment.

Now, how long would you wait for the dream having your love recognized?

The answer was 55 years for Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon.

This San Francisco couple finally married after California became the 2nd of 50 United States to allow gay marriage earlier this week. The last time I checked, 4% is a failing grade, unless you're talking body fat.

This San Francisco couple now has the opportunity to reduce the divorce rate, which is about 50% (for 1st marriages) give or take percentage points either way. So the great institution of marriage fails approximately half of the time through the efforts of (assumed) straight couples. The last time I checked, 50% is a failing grade, unless you're talking about a grading curve applied to Bart Simpson's academic career.

So what now? It's simple. Gay married couples in California will live their lives, share in their joys and pains, divorce, remarry, go to the grocery store, argue over dinner, raise their kids, and worry about bills, hopes, and dreams, and have the rights that ALL married couples are granted.

And that is 100% correct in every way.
