830PM OMG Song of the Night

With so many people feeling inspired, I thought I'd pick out a song with an inspirational declaration.

And here are some MORE clues---

1. Get your cardboard boxes out, cut them out, and put them on the floor.
2. Get ready to spin on your back.

EVEN MORE CLUES? Okay...

3. They're not cat and mouse.
4. They don't believe in red octagons.

Confused? Good...leave your guesses here or in the TALK section @ the bottom of the page.

Homes Sweet Homes- a ballpark estimate

Recently, John McCain couldn't remember how many homes he had.

But I can't really blame him for forgetting. I have a number of homes, too.

Here's a short list:

Burger King- Home of the Whopper (I buy their products, therefore I'm a guest in their home in the form of a drive-thru.)

Wrigley Field- Home of the Chicago Cubs (Gracious host to the aspirations of many "World Series champions, not including the gracious host.)

United States- "Home of the Brave"

And also, I have a couple of houses:

International House of Pancakes (Home of the Funny Face Pancake)

Our House (the 45 that i actually OWN from the fab band Madness)

Oh, and I can't for get mi casa

"Mi casa es su casa." (the sentence I lovingly told my late grandmother everytime she visited; it made her giggle, and she quoted it incessantly.)

But if you want an exact number of homes, houses, or casas that I have, I'll have to ask my staff...which is, um, well, me.

Madonna @ 50---what's next?

She's had Elvis-like chart success, she's redefined power, she's redefined and openly addressed sexuality, she's re-invented herself countless times, and she influenced a generation of women to take charge in a man's world.

Soooooooo...what now?

Madonna, now closer to 70 than 30, is moving into the next phase of her life. And now with 50 being the new 30, she should JUST be hitting her stride now.

But what's amazing is how relevant she still is. Everytime she makes a statement, every decision she makes, every place she goes, gobs of media follow. Still. At age 50.

And what's amazing is she still is cranking out hits. New producers. New collaborators. At age 50.

And what's even more amazing is how much more interesting she is than almost every new pre-packaged Diva that tries to mimick Madonna's 'outrageousness' seems like a poor, poor clone.

And remember, Madonna started this all in the early 80's, in a time where Russia was being aggressive and was a threat, the United States ecomomy was in shambles, and there was a desperate need for something new. Hmmmmmm...sounds like 2008. So, can Lourdes sing?

The Drug Generation was right- Feed your head

"Feed Your Head."

Hippie-generation music trailblazers Jefferson Airplane used this in the crescendo of their 60's classic "White Rabbit," a not-so-veiled reference to the experimental and on-purpose drug consumption during the mid-to-late 1960's. Drugs were supposed to open your mind up to new experiences, while some just did it to get high. Some claimed that these drugs would hurt society and even create a crisis.

Today, there is a new crisis plaguing our society---stupidity.

Instead of picking up guitars and learning an instrument, some are getting a cheap-thrill out of pressing plastic buttons on a fake guitar. Instead of checking out the groundbreaking comedy of a Monty Python or the late George Carlin, some are watching YouTube, replete with people doing incredibly stupid things that really aren't funny, but are...well...incredibly stupid. Instead of the process of "dumbing down" something, why aren't we as a society "smarting up" things.

The challenge of playing a guitar, understanding challenging comedy, and "smarting up" are just a few of the remedies for the symptoms of a society that needs it obvious or else it collectively gives up. The Renaissance is often celebrated as an era that had major breakthroughs in Art, Literature, Music, Science, and other areas. But right now, as we live and breathe, we have been in the middle of a Renaissance over the past 10 years. The problem is, a majority of the society is too caught up in the baby's mamma's drama of TV court shows, Britney Spears, Brangelina, and other unimportant entities to realize these great discoveries. Scientists are making amazing breakthroughs, underground poets are writing with amazing aplomb on the streets of New York City, and we have found ice of freakin' MARS.

But no, TV supplies what people want. Pap. Lots of it. The internet provides amazing information and amazing ways to waste time. And video game companies churn out several genres of games, lots without any substantial difference. I mean, come on, I know the Madden video games are a franchise, but what substantive difference is there between Madden '08 and Madden '09. And more importantly, why is it important? And don't even get me started on texting.

Remember this: if all you feed your head is stupidity, what do you think will come out of your mouth and in your emails? Stupidity. You have to CHALLENGE your brain every now and then, even if there are no superheros, fairly obvious jokes, or Hollywood explosions involved. Do yourself a favor. Read one news story a week. Just one. It'll take about 2 minutes, maybe 3, at most 5. That is 52 stories in a year, which will make you smarter, more informed, and infinitely more interesting than getting to the next level of World of Warcraft (and yes, I realize you can communicate with other people, who may happen to actually BE smart. But I guarantee you they didn't get a majority of their knowledge from playing WoW).
