Michael Jackson- R.I.P.

Wow. The texts and phone calls that have rushed into me have been stunning, just like the death of Michael Jackson. I know the last decade of his life has been quite the freakshow, but you cannot deny the amazing talent he possessed and his impact on pop culture. MTV would not have been the great station people remember from back in the 80's without the videos "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and the iconic "Thriller." R&B and Soul music would not be what it is without The Jackson 5.

And of course, The Moonwalk is the symbol of Jackson at his greatest. His studded glove was a symbol of him at his most flashy. And the album "Thriller" represents the mountain for all aspiring music stars to climb.

But now the tributes are all over the news, all over radio stations, and all over television and internet outlets all over the world.

The King of Pop is gone, but his music will live on forever.

Dave's Rant for Thursday June 4: I really, really, really don't want my MTV.

From the desk of the bemused and unamused---

Forget about Dre
Hmmm...The Bruno/Eminem stunt at the MTV Movie Awards was reportedly staged, like the network stages like it's interested in music videos anymore.

Late Show Ping-Pong
Conan. Letterman. Conan. Letterman. MY TiVo is about to 'splode.

Gay Days for Sideshow Cecil
David Hyde Pierce disclosed that he is gay and married. Sideshow Bob had no comment.

Please, please forget about Dre
I just saw a Dr. Pepper commercial where Dr. Dre completely disses dance music. His (musical) partner Eminem had no comment.

'Dow index is up
An observation about Rachel Maddow---it's nice to see a news reporter that doesn't screech, scream, snark (too much), or sarcasm her way to legitimacy. Her actual partner had no comment.

Jonas clone does Beyonce dance
I know I'm giving you a reason to watch yet another mindless video, but really. One of the Jonas clones has done a take on the Saturday Night Live Justin Timberlake take on the music video for the Beyonce hit "Single Ladies." So let me get this right, in 2009, a take-off of a take-off is now popular. Pa-thetic and Puh-leez.

Speaking of Beyonce
How's that Sasha Fierce thing going?
